Govt. Degree College Nowshera was established in the year 2008 and started functioning from the premises of Govt. Middle School, Nowshera with a strength of 233 students in arts stream only. The science stream was introduced from the session 2016-17 when the college shifted to its own building. From the session 2018-19, subjects of Geography and Sanskrit were introduced. One more subject of Physical Education was introduced from the session 2022-23 when the college admitted the students under NEP-2020.
The college is located at Darshan Nagar, Nowshera about 4 km south of Jammu – Poonch national highway NH 144A. The Mangla Mata Temple, Mangla Devi Fort, Qila Darhal and Central Gurudwara of Nonial are the main attractions of this place. The college has a vast campus spread over 100 kanals of land having full scope of its further expansion as a premier institute of higher learning. It has a big playground enough to be used as a cricket, volleyball and football ground.
All the classrooms of the main building are equipped with smart panels, Wi-Fi connections and inverters for continuous supply of power. The college has well-equipped labs for Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and Computer Applications, a smart classroom besides a conference hall and a separate Girls common room.
It gives me immense pleasure to welcome new entrants to this institution of higher learning for receiving quality education. Govt. Degree College Nowshera since its establishment in 2008, has been striving hard towards maintaining high academic standards and excellence in the field of education. The college has recently been awarded B+ grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). With the development of infrastructure facilities and the use of modern technology, the college has the required potential to further improve its grade in the next accreditation. At present the college offers Arts and Science Streams. From the current session, the college is admitting the students under National Educational Policy (NEP-2020). The new policy is based on flexibility, multidisciplinary education, conceptual understanding, critical thinking, ethical values etc. The college has been maintaining a tradition of inculcating human values in the minds of students. Stress is laid on physical, mental and intellectual development of the students.
